Rufus made the trip from Paris, approx 75 km, to Chateau-Thierry, the site of one the bloodiest battles for the AEF in WWI. This memorial is the largest of its kind in all of Europe for American’s who fought and perished in WWI. The monument sits on Hill 204, overlooking the River Marne, which is where American forces were engaged during the Second Battle of the Marne in June and July of 1918.
