After our Zeppelin excursion this morning, we headed further west to the tiny village of Hilzingen. In May of 1883, a woman (Meine Grossmutter Theresia Fehr) and her two children left Hilzingen for a new life in the United States of America. Upon arrival on the the ship Braunschweig in Baltimore, her life and the lives of her children would change forever. They would make their way west to a new state called Kansas. One of her sons, August William Fehr , baptized in this church on March 4, 1872, would live out his life in Chanute, Kansas and pave the way for a son, and many grandsons. Without the determination of my ancestors , I would not have the many opportunities that I have today.
The drive from Friedrichshafen was an amazing one, never have we seen so many orchards full of fruit.
After our visit, we drove our trusty Audi A3, “Augie” towards Zurich, Switzerland. Our GPS guides for this trip “Babs” our Garmin Nuvi, and “Sammy” our Samsung Galaxy S7 equipped with Google Maps, quarreled with each other the entire way. Yet, through their vigilance, we managed to arrive at every single one of our destinations. Tomorrow is another day, we say goodbye to Europe after visiting seven different countries. Stay tuned for more more pictures and videos on this site as we post them. Auf Wiedersehen!!!!!!!
