Day #2 : Edinburgh, the really old stuff

The Palace of Holyrood is the British monarch’s official residence in Scotland. It’s known for royal history, stunning architecture, and its connection to Mary, Queen of Scots, who lived in the northern most part of the palace until she was carted off to London and imprisoned for 19 years. Details about her life and her violent execution in 1587 were complex and intriguing. The palace’s construction began in 1128 as an Abbey, located at the far end of the Royal Mile, with Edinburgh Castle at the other end. As an American, it’s particularly important to listen to the information presented that tells the early story of the British royalty, something we don’t get to cover much as educators.
