Day #3: Goodbye Scotland, Hello England…….

After an early morning get away, Muffy (my trusty navigator), and I traveled 6 hours south to the Lincoln, UK, home of Lincoln Cathedral and Castle. Here is where my journey really begins as I get up close and personal with the first copy of the Magna Carta on this trip. One of the original four copies that I will visit, the Lincoln Cathedral has held the Magna Carta since 1215. As one of four surviving copies, it carries unique Lincolnshire annotations and folds. It’s the only place in the world where you can view the 1215 Magna Carta and the subsequent 1217 and 1225 Charter of the Forest side by side.

Needless to say, after a long day of driving, I was thrilled to finally visit one of the four original Magna Carta. Which has become my kind of Holy Grail crusade. Speaking of which, did someone mention Holy Grail? The greatest Monty Python movie……..ever! Early on Day #2, Muffy and I ventured northeast of Edinburgh to the medieval Doune Castle, which was the primary location for most of the classic movie. No knights said “Ni”, but I swore I heard French soldiers taunting us a second time.
