Along the road to Fort Douaumont are a series of century old trenches, showing that nature cannot completely heal the damage from the Battle of Verdun. We could almost hear the whistles, telling us that it was time to leave the trenches and go over the top. Scattered along the road were battlements and outposts, all in various states of destruction and decay. It was truly an incredible sight to behold.
Your adventure is incredible! I can only imagine what an emotional roller coaster you must be on. The excitement of having the opportunity to visit these sites, but at the same time the sadness of what took place. With that being said, Rufus may be feeling a little lonely. I think at least one of you should be in the picture with him from time to time.
